On a very sunny Saturday in April, Barry Pan Disability FC faced off against Bridgend and District Premier Division outfit Llanharry FC at Llanharry Recreation Ground.
Both teams came into this game with a positive attitude after both teams won the matches they both played recently, so this was going to be a very interesting and close game.
In the opening 20 minutes both teams were just getting into the game and both teams had a couple of good chances to open the scoring but Llanharry were definitely the better side who deserved going in front and they did just that around the 30 minute mark as the Barry players allowed Llanharry too much space and time as the ball floated over the head of the Barry keeper. Llanharry 1 Barry 0. It was 2-0 not long after as Llanharry made a few substitutions, a similar goal was scored, as the Barry players failed to close down the Llanharry player who curled a shot into the far right hand corner. After this Barry woke up a little bit and started playing the football they know they can play and created chances which they should of scored from but the Llanharry defence kept them at bay. At halftime the score read 2-0 to Llanharry.
As the second half kicked off, Barry knew that one goal would change the game, which led them having more chances to score but unfortunately, Llanharry went up the other end and scored a controversial penalty to make it 3-0 to Llanharry. This is where the game got interesting, as instead of letting there heads drop, Barry just continued playing there brand of football and got back into the game around 5 minutes later after Joe broke down the left wing and kept driving towards goal after beating the defender, the defender then brought him down inside the box and a penalty was awarded to Barry. Joe dusted himself off and got back up to his feet and put away the penalty, which got Barry back into the game at 3-1. After that Llanharry didn’t know what hit them as they still created chances but they couldn’t score. Barry then went up the other end and a shot was parried by the Llanharry keeper and Joe had the easiest of tap ins to make it 3-2. Was the comeback on? Of course it was! As Barry played some good football and when the ball broke to Dave in the middle of the pitch, he just kept on running with the Llanharry defence chasing him but they were unable to catch him and he put it away in the left hand corner of the goal to complete the comeback for Barry to make it 3-3. Llanharry made lots of changes to make sure they got back in front and they did around 10 minutes later, after Barry failed to get rid of the ball, the Llanharry player struck a left footed shot which sailed into the goal to make it 4-3 to Llanharry, Barry kept on pushing to score a fourth goal but as it was happening lots of gaps appeared in the Barry midfield which Llanharry took full advantage of to score a fifth goal. As the referee blew the final whistle the game ended 5-3 to Llanharry.
