Despite a challenging three games against Llanhran, Barry continues to push forward, even as we navigate some tough results on the scoreboard dating back to 2023. In the first match, we faced a 6-0 defeat, followed by a 7-1 game that tested our defense, and most recently, an 8-4 defeat that showed promising signs of our attacking potential. Though we’ve faced setbacks, there’s no lack of determination as the team looks ahead, hungry for that first victory against the Bridgend and District League First Division side.
As the sun was shining down on the Jenner Park Pitch, Barry were the better side for the first half hour, they kept Llanharan at bay after a combination of offsides, excellent defending and great goalkeeping by Bradley. They deservingly went 2-0 up after goals from Joe and a great bullet header at the back post by Curtis which was created by Joe, even after these goals, Barry continued to create chances but couldn’t extend their lead. Llanharan got 1 back after the Barry defence didn’t close down a long shot. Llanharan were then level a few minutes later, as the 2 Llanharan strikers linked up. Barry then found themselves 3-2 down after they failed to close down another long shot from Llanharan. On the stroke of half time Barry were awarded a penalty after some great work down the left wing by Euan. Joe stepped up and got his second of the game sending the Llanharan keeper the wrong way. HT score 3-3.
Llanharan score 2 goals in quick succession at the start of the second half to make it 5-3 but in true Barry fight and character they never gave up and pulled a goal back to make it 5-4 as Euan found some space and curled the ball into the bottom right corner to give the Llanharan keeper no chance to save it. As the game progressed towards the end, the fitness and game management of Llanharan began to show as the Barry players were starting to get tried. Llanharan scored 4 more goals to put the game beyond doubt. The full score read Barry 4 Llanharan 8.
Post match comments made by Barry Coach Dave:
Very proud of you all. 2 Nil up, 3-3 at half time. Defended like demons and took our chances well.
Scoreline doesn't show the full story, we got tired, had a couple of injuries. We were always going to struggle later in the game as they (Llanharan) play week in week out and have the concentration and fitness on us.
